Many people when they think of teach ESL, they think of it as a short term job, not as a life time career. A job you may pursue right from college before entering ‘the real job scene’ or something you do on the side while traveling to help pay your way. However, teaching English as a second language can become a lifelong career. I have spent the last few weeks reading article after article after blog post on why teaching English as a second language can be a lifelong career choice and why it is one that many people may want to choose above a ‘traditional’ teaching job. These articles and blogs posts are not only informational, but very inspiring.
A list of points I have picked up from my recent research…
- Teaching ESL can allow you to travel the world.
- Like any teaching job, it is rewarding.
- You can make a difference in students life, as English is seen as the ‘business language of the world’ and opens up many doors and possibilities for those who speak it.
- If teaching in a foreign country (you could also teach online) you have the opportunity to learn a new language and put your own learning and language skills to the test.
- If you are hard working and make a point of building relationships and maintaining connects, teaching English can be a very financially comfortable career.
